What's Up Wednesday

It's time for What's Up Wednesday!

What I'm Reading
I finished Cress by Marissa Meyer. It was exciting and fun just like I knew it would be. I also read Thorns of Decision by Breeana Puttroff and started River Marked by Patricia Briggs.
I'm still using audio books to entertain me while I clean and exercise so I finished Seeds of Discovery by Breeana Puttroff, listened to the entire book, Roots of Insight ( also by Breeana Puttroff) and started The Debt Collector serial by Susan Kaye Quinn. Both books by Breeana Puttroff are part of her Dusk Gate Chronicles. They aren't the most unique YA fantasy stories but they are clean enough that I can listen to them while snuggling my toddler at nap time, which I love. You might have noticed that I have one of her books listed in the previous paragraph. Apparently they were gripping enough that I had to continue reading the series even after I finished ones available in audio format!

What I'm Writing
I'm still revising/rewritting Slumber. It's beginning to feel like drudgery. I need to get my joy back so this story stays alive and doesn't have a grumpy tone through the middle. I'm wondering if its just because I've been working on it so long or if its because there is something off about the middle of the book that I need correct.

What's Inspiring Me Right Now

Playing at the beach with my kids!!!!!!!

What Else I've Been Up To

I've been applying sunscreen to wiggly children.  It's a full time job.

  1. Suncream on wriggly children sounds very familiar. I don't miss having to put the stuff on an entire class of little ones :P

Sometimes when editing, if I get *really* bored, I start to wonder how I can make it more interesting for me and my future readers.

  2. I know what you mean about drudgery and working on something for so long. I'm there, too! Have you thought about working on something else for a little bit and then coming back to this one with fresh eyes? I know that has helped me a lot. I hope you can reclaim your love of this story!

We are only just getting sunscreen weather in these parts, but I'm loving every minute of it. Have a wonderful week, Sarah! :-)

  3. I loved Cress. I'm so excited for Winter. We got a taste of her character and I can't wait to see how the story ends. Thanks for sharing. :D

  8. Sounds like lots of fun reading/listening for you lately! I have CRESS on my MUST-read list ... Can't wait to read that one. :)

As for the drudgery ... sometimes I've found that getting feedback can help boost me out of that kind of feeling. Just having someone read it, give me their thoughts, plus talk through slow bits or things that aren't working can do WONDERS for my attitude, energy, and motivation. :)

Speaking of ... I still haven't done that critique for you! If you ever want me to read a chapter or something, let me know! :)

Have a great week, and best of luck with the wiggly children + sunscreen. Sounds tricky! :)

  10. Audiobooks are a great way to take your mind off of mundane activities like cleaning! I used to be responsible for managing a bunch of laptops for hearings...I listened to more great books during that time! I miss that. Now I listen to them when I clean, but I don't clean enough (we have an 800 square foot house) to really get through books, so I just read while I'm on the treadmill.
