Insecure Writer's Support Group

I can't believe it's July and time for IWSG already!
I've been chasing away my insecurities by writing so much I don't really have time to think. It mostly works. The one thing that nags at me is my growing pile of first drafts and partially edited manuscripts... I need to tackle them but drafting is so much easier. I really want to get some of my work completely done, shared with others and perhaps published.
Any advice is more than welcome!
Happy writing everyone!!!

  1. Here's my checklist for editing: foreshadowing, lanterns, motivation, scene/sequel, sentence length variance, word choice variance, and pacing. Obviously you have your standard proofreading as well. The standard rule is "if it sounds funny to you, change it."

  2. The hardest part is choosing a manuscript and just finish it. I hate editing, and have only edited one novel, but had written about four. But then I am not published either. Hope the writing cooperates. Best wishes.

  3. Ha! I have a love/hate relationship with editing and rewriting. I loved it last week . . . hate it right now. But yay for new words and first drafts. Still, umm, get to it, will ya? lol Kidding. Can't force these things sometimes.

  5. I hate first drafts - trade you!
The only way to do it is to buckle down and edit one of them. Get some good critique partners to help.
