Class of 2014: YA Superlatives Blogfest POPULARITY CONTEST

I went through the books I've read this year and realized a huge percentage of them were written in 2013. I also read the first book or two in several series that had releases in 2014. Some of my choices will be from these slightly older books.

Villain I Love to Hate
Manon Blackbeak from Heir of Fire
Scary, nasty and somehow oddly human and intriguing.

Most Likely to Become a Rock Star
Ronan from The Raven Cycle
He has the moodiness and attitude to pull it off.

Favorite Parental Figure
This is old, old old. Well, not that old. The movie came out in 2014 anyway...
I loved the parents in If I Stay.

Most Likely to Start a Riot
Thorne from Cress

Biggest Flirt
Aedion from Heir of Fire
I didn't read a lot of books with flirty characters but Aedion seems to fit.

Coolest Nerd
So this isn't YA or new... but my favorite nerd from a book I read this year is Lincoln from Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. I laughed so hard during that book and what's more nerdy then falling in love with a girl you haven't met because you read emails for a living?

Fashion King and/or Queen
Drawing a blank...

Character I’d Most Want For a BFF
Kestrel from The Winner's Curse.
Tough, smart and I think she'd still be fun to go shopping with.
And don't laugh but I'd take Rowan from Heir of Fire as a BFF too. I LOVED his character and who wouldn't want a seriously fierce and loyal fae warrior as a best friend?

Character I Wish I’d Dated in High School
Um, perhaps Chaol from Heir of Fire or Kaden from The Kiss of Deception. I like the fierce, protector type apparently (Can you tell I didn't read much contemporary this year?).

Most Likely to Become President
I saw someone else put Ganesy from The Raven Cycle and now I can't picture anyone else in the spot. He's perfect.

Quirkiest Character
Cress from, wait for it... Cress.
How can you not be gloriously quirky when you spent most of your life orbiting in a satellite?

  1. I love your answers! As for the characters I don't know, I need to read their books.

  2. I think the power of this blogfest can compel Gansey in 2016 into reality.

  3. I just finished ATTACHMENTS and loved that book so much! Lincoln is the perfect nerd, for sure. And the parents in IF I STAY were pretty fantastic. I think the movie did a great job of conveying that. Chaol and Kaden are both so swoonworthy. I second your votes for them. ;-)

    1. It's a good thing I'll never have to choose between Chaol and Kaden...

  4. I love Lincoln from ATTACHMENTS. I love how his view of himself was so different from what everyone else saw. Such an adorable, low-self-esteem guy who totally deserved his happy ending.

  5. I love Lincoln too! I'm going to re-read Attachments now. I haven't seen the film version of If I Stay but I can remember from the book that the parents were pretty cool.

    1. I just watched the movie of If I Stay and I thought it did the parents justice. Attachments was one of my favorite reads this year :)

  6. What I love about these character lists is that I suddenly want to start reading books that I never was interested in before when I learn more about the characters. Like the way you mention Rowan makes me want to read that series now (a lot of catching up to do to get to Heir of Fire!) same thing with the parents from If I Stay.

    1. All the Throne of Glass books are great but I feel like they keep getting better as the series goes on. Rowan doesn't appear until Heir of Fire but there are tons of other compelling characters!

  7. Great list! Yes the parents in If I Stay were great. I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm on hold at the library for it. I loved the book though.

    1. I just watched the movie last week (also from the library!) and I enjoyed it but nothing beats the books.

  8. Gansey for President! Also, I really need to get my hands on The Attachments. I love Rainbow Rowell!

  9. Oh, I love ATTACHMENTS so much! I wish it got all the love Rainbow Rowell's other novels get because I think it's equally excellent. And great choice in Mia's parents. Totally counts thanks to the movie's release, and they're awesome. Can't wait to see your choices for tomorrow, Sarah!

  10. I would definitely want Rowan for a BFF. He was my favorite new character (although Manon was another new one I loved.) Also, I could totally see Thorne starting a riot, and I love him for it.
