What's Up Wednesday and IWSG

It is time for What's Up Wednesday and IWSG!

What I'm Reading  I slowed down a bit this week.  I did read Cinder by Marissa Meyer though.  I really wasn't sure if I'd like it.  I loved it!  It is such a fun twist on Cinderella.  I am now reading Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo.

What I'm Writing  I made a barely measurably amount of progress on my revisions of Slumber.  It didn't take me a barely measurable amount of time either which was a bit depressing.  I need to stop obsessing and push forward somehow. I also added some words to my fairy tale WIP.  I joined #WriterRecharge and have every intention of having a great writing month, slow revisions or not!

What Inspires Me Right Now  #WriterRecharge!!!  My goals are posted here and to sign up go here.  I'm also inspired by Say Goodbye to Survival Mode by Crystal Paine.  I'm still working though it and I love how much more intentional my life has become.

What Else I've Been Up To  Sneezing.  Yay.  We can't seem to stay healthy at my house lately.  I did manage to squeeze some crocheting in between sneezes (and sneezy kids) and I made my Kindle a new home :)  It still needs a button but I want to find a unique vintage one if I can.

Insecure Writer's Support Group
My insecurities this month seem to be focused around my fumbling attempts at revisions.  I tend to want to fix everything that I find wrong all at once and I paralyze myself with all the faults I find.  I suppose it will just take practice.  Lots of practice.  I have 2 (almost 3) manuscripts to revise so practicing shouldn't be an issue lol.

I hope that everyone has a great week!

  1. I find revising novels overwhelming, too! Not so much with short stories and flash fiction, though. I just try to remind to myself that I'm making it better, I'm making it better…. :)

    1. I don't mind shorter works either. I can visualize what needs done and do it in a sitting or so.
I hope that I'm making my novel better. Sometimes I wonder!

  3. So glad you enjoyed CINDER! I thought it was a really creative take on Cinderella, which is saying something because its a fairy tale that's been retold a lot over the years. Love the new Kindle cover you made. I hope you find just the right button for it. Good luck with your revisions! Slow and steady is okay. Who knows? You might be moving slower because you're doing a really thorough job. Feel better soon!

    1. Yes, Cinderella has many, many forms lol but this one really stood out! I can't wait to read the next book.
I had so much fun making that cover (and watching Doctor Who, multitasking!). I thought of just using whatever button I had lying around but I want it to make a statement and make me smile whenever I see it.
I hope I'm doing a thorough job... I meant to go over the story several times focusing on one problem at a time but I don't seem to operate that way. I guess the only way to see if it works is to keep going.

    1. Thank you! I wanted a cover for it but didn't feel like spending on one then a skien of yarn I had caught my eye...

  6. Yay! I'm so pleased you loved CINDER! It's an awesome series so far. :) Don't be too discouraged, Sarah. A barely measurable amount is still more progress than none. Keep pushing ahead, even if it's only little steps at a time--they add up. :) Have a wonderful week, with fewer sneezes and more words! :D

    1. Thank you! It was fun to make!
It is worth reading, especially if you want something light and fun.

  9. If you don't want to revise all at once, you could try typing notes within red brackets inside the text of the story. When you go back through you can make the changes you want and add new notes for further changes.

  10. Just keep writing and the revisions will come along. Ugh, I keep saying I'll buy Cinder. I think I bought Siege last month when it was at a special low price. Glad recharging is working for you Sarah.

  11. Best of luck with those revisions! I know how hard they can be. Something that helps me is not obsessing about getting it perfect. Get it good enough, then give it to people (even if it's a relative or someone who has to love you no matter how many commas you use) to read. I've found that sharing my work FAST helps keep me motivated, and the feedback can help drive future revisions and changes.

Best of luck with Writer Recharge! I'm participating too & I'll be cheering you on! :)

    1. I never thought of sharing my work "fast". I guess I always thought that I had to have it as perfect as possible before anyone saw it but sharing it right away does make sense. It would definitely help one stay on track and get a better idea of what to work on and what to not obsess over.

  12. Oh I hate revision and I have a draft to finish writing, an MS to revise and another to begin. Guess which one of those projects I want to ignore? :)

    Best of luck! X

  13. Love your crocheted Kindle case. It will look awesome with a cool vintage button. I especially love big wooden buttons with etchings on them. :-) Good for you for adding new words to your WiP. Every little bit is progress so that's great! I'm hoping to see some progress on that front as well. Have a great week, Sarah, and good luck meeting your goals!
