What's up Wednesday

It's time for What's Up Wednesday!

What I'm Reading  I just finished "Wanderlove" by Kirsten Hubbard. It was a quick read but I loved the exotic setting.  I'm still reading my chapter a day classic, "Two Years Before the Mast" and the kids and I are about half way through "The Story of Doctor Dolittle".  I began "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving yesterday and will be starting a new YA novel soon but I'm not sure which one.
What I'm Writing  I have had another terrible writing week.  I did get about 1k written.
My Ready. Set. Write. goals for this week are going to be very simple. They are to write every day.
What Else I've Been Up To My two year old fractured his ankle.  Taking care of him is about all I have done. .  He is such an active little boy and not being mobile is so hard on him.
What Inspires Me Right Now  I am feeling unusually uninspired today.

  1. Oh, gosh - I hope your little one heals FAST. I bet the immobility is tough. Sending prayers and good thoughts your way!

Also, one of my former students raved about A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANY. I still need to read that one!

And 1K is better than zero K! Good luck with writing this week!

    1. Yes, my poor little guy is getting good at saying "stuck". He doesn't like being "stuck very much but he is adjusting. Thanks for the thoughts, prayers and encouragement.

  2. I hope your little one heals up fast. I can only imagine how hard it must be to keep him rested. Sounds like a good excuse to do loads of painting activities :D

Sometimes, keeping goals simple is the best way to achieve things. Best of luck to you this week.

    1. Painting is an excellent idea :)
My "simple" goal for the week is working out well so far. It took enough pressure off to keep my writing fun and not overwhelming.

  4. I've wanted to read Wanderlove for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it. 1,000 is not bad, it's better than nothing. Hope you find some inspiration soon.

    1. It was a fun read, rather like a mini vacation :) Life is starting to feel inspiring again. I think I just needed some sleep.

  6. 1,000 words is nothing to sneeze at, especially since you've been caring for your boy. I hope his ankle heals quickly--poor thing! :(

I really enjoyed Kirsten's debut novel, LIKE MANDARIN. WANDERLOVE's been on my TBR for a while--I should get around to it soon.

I hope you have a productive and inspired week, Sarah! :)

    1. Yes, 1,000 words is still a step in the right direction, especially since it was a busy week.
My son is in a cast instead of a sprint now and he seems to feel quite a bit better.
I should add "Like Mandarin" to my TBR list. I enjoyed Kirsten's style.

  7. WANDERLOVE was such a good book! I loved all the little doodles in it too. I agree with Colin: 1000 words is definitely nothing to sneeze at. I think your goal of writing a bit each day is a good one. Summers are always busy, so even slipping in a bit of writing is great.

Sorry to hear about your son's ankle. Hope it heals up quickly!

    1. The doodles were great! I loved them too. So far my goal is working well for me. Simplicity was much needed this week. Oh, I'm loving YA Buccaneers by the way :)

  8. Bless your heart-- 2 is a tough age to keep occupied and happy after an injury. I hope you are both managing as best as you can. Your goal for this week sounds great-- sometimes life gets in the way, but then things return to normal. And, OMG Owen Meany is one of my all time favorite books. I love it so much and have read it over and over again. Just reading about it makes me want to pick it up again. The characters and the story blow me away. I hope you like it! No pressure. :0)

    1. Haha yes, two is a very tough age to keep occupied! He likes to drive his toy cars up and down his cast though so that's fun and very cute :) I'm only a little way into Owen Meany but it does have amazing characters. I like that its different then anything else I've read.

  9. Your precious baby is in my thoughts and prayer to heal quickly and with no trouble. When this sort of thing happens, everything else takes a back seat as it should.

    1. Thank you :) I've definitely had to rearrange my priorities this week but the extra time entertaining my little guy is actually a welcome change.
