Its time for What's up Wednesday!
What I'm Reading Yesterday I received a copy of Nancy LaRonda Johnson's new book Salted with Fire. I won it during her blog tour and I started reading it as soon as I opened the package. It is a poetry and flash fiction collection. So far I love it! My kid's and I have been reading the Tacky the Penguin books. Both the illustrations and the text are hilarious. They have to be some of my favorite books to read aloud. I sort of burned out on "Two Years Before the Mast". It's very informative but somewhat dry. I'm going to do better at it this week. I'm ready to finish it and move on to a different classic, maybe Anna Karenina.
What I'm Writing I had two migraines this week so I didn't get nearly as much writing done as I wanted to. I did figure out solutions to my remaining "plot holes" but that was it. My Read. Set. Write! goal for this week is to spend five hours on revisions. This round I am weaving in my plotting solutions and strengthening the scenes and structure.
What Inspires Me Right Now This week I have been inspired by Susan Kay Quinn's blog. She is blogging a book called "Indie Author Survival Guide" and it is quite informative. I am also inspired by fall and all that it offers (not the least of these being a Starbuck's pumpkin spice latte!).
What Else I've Been Up to I'm getting ready for company. My baby sister and my cousin are coming to visit! I haven't seen them, or any of my family, in over a year. I can't wait to show them around and take them to my favorite beaches and seaside towns.
Oh and I've also been promoting Becca Campbell's latest book, Empath. I'd recommend checking it out here. Her giveaway is still open for two more days :)
What have you been up to?
Pumpkin spice latte - YUM! Now you've got me excited! Sounds like you have a wonderful week planned! Good luck with those revisions and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I love the flavors of fall, especially when coffee is involved :)
DeleteHave fun with family and good luck with your revisions! Along with needing to check out Empath I need to check out Salted with Fire. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYour welcome!
DeleteOh, the pumpkin spice latte does sound yummy! Have lots of fun with your family. Glad you're reading some fun books!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Pumpkin spice is good in pretty much anything:)
DeleteFirstly I tagged you on Monday for The Next Big Thing. Heard good things about Empath and sorry about the migraines and best of luck with your writing goals.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I can't wait to make my post on it. I'm terrible about sharing my wip and even worse at trying to sum it up in a sentence so this will be amazing practice for me :)
DeleteSusan is great! I attended a critique group with her a few times, though it's kind of haul based on where I live in and work in the Chicago burbs. Her blog is so informative, she really does a lot to help support other writers.
ReplyDeleteShe really does. I'm so glad I found it. I'm learning alot.
DeleteTacky was a huge hit with my kids, too. It's great to hear you are making progress, even with headaches and kids and all that running a home entails. Enjoy your company!
ReplyDeleteHe's so funny! I love it when me oldest son reads it to himself and starts belly laughing. So cute!
DeleteGood luck with your revisions. And congrats on figuring out plot holes. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's good to be figuring them out. I'm ready to move forward!
DeleteANNA KARENINA seems to be the classic to read at the moment. I plan to get to it eventually, but there other books I need to read first. I'd be interested to see what you make of it.
ReplyDeleteI had a sample of some pumpkin coffee at our local Fresh Market the other day. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but the combination of pumpkin, cinnamon, and coffee was actually pretty nice. Really got me in the mood for Fall and Thanksgiving.
I hope you have a great time with your sister, and perhaps even get some writing done. :)
I love fall flavors. So soothing. I haven't read anything by Tolstoy yet so I thought that I'd start with that one. It does seem to be popular right now.
DeleteSorry about your migraines, I hope you have better luck this week and get lots of revising done!
ReplyDeleteThanks. They certainly make it hard to get much done. So far this week has been much better.
DeleteCongrats on working through some plot holes! That can be so hard. And I'm sorry to hear about the migraines. I hope this week goes well for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks! So far I am making some good progress, so that's good.
DeleteI feel your pain on the migraine front. I'm slowly working my way out of a three-day long migraine as I type. The coffee I had this morning is actually working wonders, so thank goodness for that. Hope the rest of your week is migraine free! I realized today that I, too, am looking forward to fall now. It has always been my favourite season, but since last winter was sooooo long, I was plenty happy with a lengthy summer. But now I think I'm over it and ready for fall. Good luck with your revisions this week, Sarah! :)
ReplyDeleteAw :( NO fun. Coffee can help a ton. I love fall. It rained all summer though so I hope that we have a sunny fall.
DeleteSorry to hear about your migraines--I hope they abate, and you get in some writing time before your visitors arrive. Have fun at the beach!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I hope that I can too. I got some in tonight. I'm not sure how much I will be able to do when they are here.
DeleteI've been playing far more football than writing. I wrote a flash fic about an anorexic penguin once. A tacky penguin sounds interesting.
ReplyDeleteFootball sounds like a fun thing to spend time on and real life experiences are such great fuel for writing.
DeleteI now have a picture of an anorexic penguin stuck in my head... its an interesting image...
Sorry to hear you had to battle two migraines this week! That's certainly no fun! Isn't it funny how people mark the seasons by the specialty drinks at Starbucks? Being Starbucks addicts in my house, we definitely do that too. Good luck with incorporating those plot solutions!
