Book Review- Rebellious Heart by Jody Hedlund

The year is 1763 and Susanna Smith is surrounded by rules and expectations. She does her best to abide by them but her love of learning and passion for others makes it difficult for her to fit within her society's narrow parameters.  When she crosses paths with a young woman whose life is in danger Susanna knows that she must help her and she knows that she can not do it alone. She turns to Ben Ross, a poor lawyer whose passion for the less fortunate matches her own.  Ben may be the perfect man to help her but she soon finds herself feeling more deeply for him then a woman of her high social standing should. She finds herself in a swirl of danger and turmoil. Everything she thought she believed in is put to the test as she realizes that just because things are a certain way doesn't mean that they shouldn't be changed.
Rebellious Heart by Jody Hedlund is an inspirational/ historical novel that grabbed my attention from the beginning.   The characters are compelling and even though the time period is so different from our own, their struggles are relatable.  I think most of us have been in a situation where we weren't sure if we should defy what is expected of us for what is right.  Once again Jody Hedlund has written a thought provoking book that seamlessly combines romance, history and suspense.  I can't wait to see what she writes next!
