New Year Rebel

I didn't feel like starting the new year on the first.  It came with to many expectations.  Every one of them was in my own mind but that didn't keep them from weighing me down.  So I rebelled.  I let the new year begin without a set list of goals.  I had some in mind, but nothing concrete.  I celebrated the new year but I shut off my inner deadline.  Who says that everything you want to accomplish in a year has to be figured out and begun on a certain day?  Goals are important in accomplishing anything and I have some big dreams but I don't want goals just for goals sake.  I only want ones that help me reach my destination, not ones that sound good but end up adding stress.
After much thought I found my one goal for this year.  One.  Everything I want to accomplish fits under it.
My goal for 2014 is to live intentionally.
That means taking my time captive and putting it where it counts.  I know me.  I'm a list maker, a goal setter.  There will be other goals but they don't have to be made this week, or even this month.  They will be made when I know what they should be.  Oh, and in case you're wondering, a great many of them will be writing related :)

  1. Hi! Happy new year! Just wanted to say I tried something new, just have one word goal for the new year. It makes me happy to see you are doing something similar. Good luck!

  3. If the government can set its own fiscal year, you can set your own year in the area of goals, too.

  4. Sarah, I love your goal of living intentionally. What an excellent thought! You are at a wonderful time in your life, homeschooling your children, living on the gulf coast. Enjoy! The mountain scenery is beautiful, but in the winter, warm is good!

    1. You're right, it is a good time in life. Thanks for the reminder! Sometimes its easy to focus on more negative thoughts, like missing snow, but this is a beautiful place to be and stage to be in :)

  5. I think I've sort of adopted a similar kind of attitude--more along the lines of focusing on doing what's important, and not stressing over things that aren't. Hopefully, this will result in more writing accomplishments this year, but like you, I'm loathe to set lots of goals. There are things I want to get done, but I'm also trying to be realistic.

    Have a great year! :)

    1. Yes, that's very similar! Being realistic saves so much stress, I think.

  6. I love this idea of living with intention, Sarah. It's inspiring, and I think I'll factor it into my New Years goals as well. Best of luck with it!
