Here is part three of the bedtime story that I am writing for a very sweet four year old that asked me to write a story about little people living on a donut. To read the first installment click here. For the second click here.
Water splashed onto August's toe.
"If your not careful he is going to run out of water before we get him to our house." Zandy said.
"I know. I'm trying."
August wrapped his arms as tightly as they would go. Why couldn't Zoomer have a square fish bowl? Maybe one with wheels on the bottom. Round bowls were so slippery.
"Watch out!" Zandy screamed.
August jumped. His foot hit something hard.
"No, no, no. I won't let you fall, I won't let you fall." Even as he said the words he could feel the bowl slipping from his grip. He hit the ground with a thud. Zoomer would be next.
What if his bowl broke? His poor, poor little fish.
August waited for the sound of smashing glass.
He had tripped. He was flat on the floor, but he hadn't heard anything break. He hadn't even heard a thump.
August looked to one side. Nothing.
He looked to the other. There was Zandy. She was on her back and balanced on top of her was Zoomer!
"That was close." she said.
"You saved him. How did you do that?" August asked.
"I don't know." she said, shaking her head. "I saw him falling and I just sort of slid under him."
"That was the best save ever."
August peered over the edge of the bowl. Zoomer looked at him and blew a few bubbles.
"I'm so glad your ok, little buddy." he said.
August looked ahead. He could see their donut home straight ahead. Had the tunnel always been so skinny?
"I sure hope you fit inside." he whispered to his pet.
(to be continued next week)
I can't believe that it is almost June! I also can't believe that I decided to write 50,000 words for JuNoWriMo! I am so excited. I haven't done anything like this before and I can't wait to finish drafting "Simmer". I tried to convince myself to plot at least a little but I only have a vague outline, some amazing characters and my crazy, runaway imagination. Since this novel runs parallel to the first one I wrote I do have my setting figured out. I can't wait to see what happens when I sit down to type it out. I'm going to try to blog like usual but if I'm scarce this month, you know where I will be, drafting with a giant cup of coffee beside me!
This is fun! Hi - and by the way - you have been blitzed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by! This was quite the surprise!
DeleteAnd the man with the list said everyone assist
ReplyDeleteAnd it turned into a blogger blitz
And the girl in the corner said boy, I wanna warn ya

Thank you! Yes, living in a donut could have its advantages.

Have a good weekend.
........dhole
Thank you for stopping by. I hope that you have a great weekend as well!
DeleteI'm intrigued to see the rest of this story. Is the hole too small?

DeleteSweet story!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the challenge, have fun!
It's nice to meet you via the blog blitz!

DeleteHappy Blitz day, Sarah!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteHappy Blitz Day, Sarah! The best children's stories are the ones their parents make up for them, like yours here. Sweet story! And best of luck with the July Writing Camp!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I still remember some of the stories that my dad used to tell me :)
DeleteI'm another 'start off with an idea and see where it goes' writer - it's fun but I sometimes let myself get carried off at a tangent. Fortunately, I currently have a writing collaborator to rein me in somewhat. Good luck with that 50,000 word target for June. I envy your ability to find the time to write right now.
ReplyDeleteYes, I get carried away too. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThat's a great snippet! So much fun! Enjoy your Blitz day! :)
ReplyDeletecute story, now I'll have to keep reading. Glad to meet you on Blitz day. Good luck in June - 50K is a lot, but you'll be amazed at what you can do.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Susan, it is a cute story, though showing up in the middle is a strange feeling :) Enjoy your blog fame today, Sarah, keep ryzin'!
ReplyDeleteI like your dialogue in this story Sarah. Hope the 50,000 words goes well too. I'm not a plotter so know it's a scary and arduous process sometimes but exciting too. Enjoy your writing!
ReplyDeleteYou're story sounds cute, that's so sweet that you're writing it with someone in mind. Good luck with JuNoWriMo, once you get started it's not as hard as it sounds.
ReplyDeleteHappy blitz day!
I think it's so sweet you're writing a donut story. Happy blitz day!
ReplyDeletePeople living on a donut - I love it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!
What a lovely little scene! I hope Zoomer makes it to the doughnut safely! Enjoy your blitz day, and best of luck with JuNoWriMo!
ReplyDeleteVery sweet storyline, it would capture a four year old's imagination for sure. Happy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah! I'm blitzing by... little peeps living on a donut is the cutest kiddies story idea that I've heard of...
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your blitz experience!
Writer In Transit

ReplyDeleteHi, Sarah! Happy Blitz Day! :)

ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteGreat story and I love the idea - how clever. Good luck during June with your writing. Happy #BlogBlitz Day
ReplyDeleteSometimes the simplicity of children is very alluring. It's a rest from adult insanity and worry. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhew! That was a close one! Cute story. Happy blog blitz!
ReplyDeleteoh, wow! Good morning everybody!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm here because of the Blitz!
ReplyDeleteAnd good luck with your JuNo! I frequently participate in a JuNo on facebook (though there it's called BuNoWriMo for reasons and junk) but this year I'm still working on revisions, so it's a no go for me. But you are totally going to kick June Butt!
That was quite a catch! Happy Blog Blitz :)
ReplyDeleteHI, SARAH.....
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BLITZ DAY!!!!!!!
How exciting to do a JuNo ..... GOOD LUCK AND ALL THE BEST!!!!

Congrats on trying the JuNoWriMo!! I hope it goes well!
ReplyDeleteAnd happy blog blitz day.
I was planning on doing my own JuNoWriMo, I had no idea anyone else was going to do it. Yay! Now I have friends to write with!! I'll be back for sure to see how your writing goes :)
ReplyDeleteGot to go back now and read the beginnings! Have a Blitzy day!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh this is wonderful and I had to go back and read the other installments. I hope you get this published someday, I want to read this to my friends' kids. They would love it.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it is June already, either. where did the month go? Have a wonderful weekend!
That is so sweet that you're writing short stories for the four-year-old. It was a very cute little story. Happy Blog Blitz!
ReplyDeleteThe story is coming out great so far! Good luck with June, I'm doing Camp this July and it is really coming up fast.
ReplyDeleteAwww, what a cute story. Good luck at JuNoWriMo. And HAPPY BLITZ DAY!!! New follower here :)
ReplyDeleteBest premise ever and so "sweet" that you're writing it for him - and you're bringing it to life quite nicely. Is he gonna fit??
ReplyDeleteI haven't done JuNoWriMo, but I've done NaNoWriMo, and I know it's very demanding. So good luck!
ReplyDeleteI once travelled almost the whole length of England with pet fish in my arms (in a tuppaware box with a lid however). And when I moved house once, my Mum, who is terrified of mice, went the whole way with my cage of pet mice on her lap. She had a blanket over them, but could hear/feel them scurrying around, and she was so brave!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with NaNo!
I haven't done any of the juno nanos - I just opted for a 1 photo a day June challenge with i Heart Faces.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo - consider yourself blitzed!

Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to meet a fellow writer.
I enjoyed this installment. Great writing.
Tracy :-)
Aw...I think it's awesome that you are recording the bedtime story your create. I so wish I'd have done that when my 4 kiddos were young. I've had a few come back to me and I jot them down, but I know there are a bunch I don't remember. You sound so sweet. Glad I found you. :)
ReplyDeleteOops, forgot to add...Happy BLITZ Day!!!
DeleteAdorable idea for a story!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, good luck with JuNo! Hmm, maybe I should do it too - get this plot bunny out of the way...
Love the background images on your blog. Oh, and happy blitz day!
You should join! It is very motivating. Thank you. The picture is of one of my favorite "thinking" spots.
DeleteHey Sarah, nice to meet you! Love your donut installment.
ReplyDeleteGood for you on JuNoWriMo. I'm doing BuNoWriMo - wonder if we're talking about the same group. Hart Johnson (Elyse Carlson as pen name, garden cozies) as head honcho? Anyway, doing DL's Whip It Good Blogfest today, so I have also announced to the world what I'm doing.
Happy Blitz, by the way :-)
Tina @ Life is Good
I think its a different one. Good luck on your WriMo :)
DeleteIs their doughnut frosted? Even if it isn't, I suppose it might be hard not to want to eat themselves out of house and home... kine of like a ginger bread house.
ReplyDeleteConsider yourself blitzed! :)
Yes, my little buddy wanted it to be frosted :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteCute story! Happy Blitz Day! :) And have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks you!
DeleteCute story so far!! I might have to read this to my five-year-old. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck on JuNoWriMo! If you feel discouraged during it at all, just remember; one word is one more word than you had before!
Happy Blitz Day! Can't wait to read the next part of the story!
Thank you for the encouragement :)
DeleteHi! Lovely story, reckon the little girl will love it :) Happy blitz day!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne @ Suzannes Tribe
Thank you!

ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, my little buddy seems to be enjoying it quite a lot.
DeleteAWE poor Zoomer got a thrill LOL. Happy Blitz Day :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
DeleteHappy Bltiz! Love the name of your characters!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I had fun naming them.
DeleteZoomer seems to be having quite the adventure! I love the idea of tracking the short stories. :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!
Lyre @ Lyre's Musings
Yes, its a pretty big adventure for a fish! Thanks for coming by.
DeleteI love the fact that you were commissioned to write a story about little people living on a donut. Perhaps the sequel can be the other tribe of little people living in the giant coffee cup.
ReplyDeleteThat could be a fun idea to explore.
DeleteI really like the idea of posting kid's fic online like this. A lot of children's authors don't do that. If only there was some way to get pictures or something involved--this sounds like such a visual idea to me!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree about the pictures. I have no artistic talent. I wish I did. I wasn't sure about posting kid's stories at first because I haven't really seen it done but I'm glad I decided to go for it. Its a lot of fun.
DeleteZandy & Zoomer are awesome names! what a cute story snippet!
ReplyDeletehappy blitz day!
Thanks so much!
DeleteI love how a donut is like a lifesaver! Great writing. Lewis Carroll defined a good children's book as a good book...that children happen to enjoy. I believe your story will qualify. :-) Happy Blitz Day from Faith at Eat Play Move (where I have set Friday as PLAYday--visiting your blog was good match today!)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome definition. Thank you so much for sharing!
DeleteHappy Blitz!!! Nice to meet you...big busy kudos for teaching your kids at home. I don't know how you guys do it!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Homeschooling is certainly an adventure.
DeleteSounds like a cute story! Good luck with JuNoWriMo! And Happy Blitz Day!!! I hope you have a fabulous day! :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with JuNoWriMo. Happy Blitz Day! It's great to meet you. :)
ReplyDeleteYou've been blitzed!
ReplyDeleteHappy blitz day! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy blitz. Have a wonderful weekend! Dragon Greetings. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea for a story. I'm thinking the 4 year old could be a little writer in the making.
Happy Blitz Day! I really enjoyed your snippet. Glad you're getting so much writing done.
ReplyDeleteHi you're story is great! Keep on writing :) happy blitz and may you always be inspired in writing your stories :) god bless alwaysss !
ReplyDeleteI have thought about doing JuNoWriMo too - since school is out, it would probably be more feasible than NaNoWriMo for me. Considering...
ReplyDeleteHappy Blitz Day! Enjoy your weekend.
Great story! Happy Blitz Day :)
ReplyDeleteHappy blitz day! You're a talented writer!
ReplyDeleteBLITZ! And nice writing, too.

Cute Concept for a children's story, Sarah. Sounds like you are having fun with it. I did read it from the beginning and I will look for the tower to be built for your donut castle and can't wait to hear how you add running water to keep that fish bowl filled. Enjoy your blitz. God bless, Maria at Delight Directed Living
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great story, I will definitely be back for more! Happy Blog Blitz day!
ReplyDeleteCute story! Happy blitz day. New follower. I give you a lot of credit for writing and homeschooling!
