What's Up Wednesday

It's time for What's Up Wednesday!

What I'm Reading  I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Heist Society this week. Now I'm reading Dark Road Home by Elizabeth Ludwig.  I'm getting back on track with my chapter a day classic and I've started reading Structuring Your Novel by K.M. Weiland. I've been trying to spend 15 minutes a day reading a book on writing.  I'm loving this one!
What I'm Writing  I wanted to revise for five hours this week and.... I totally forgot to keep track how much time I spent.  I think I was a little short of my goal.  I'm going to be revising "Slumber" some more this week, probably a few minutes at a time, seeing that I have company.
What Inspires Me Right Now  Family!  My cousin and sister flew across the country (diagonally!) to visit.  Its been such a long time since I have been able to visit with them or any of my family.
What Else I've Been Up To  I've been showing my family around Florida. My sister has never been to this part of the country before so its tons of fun!  We spent yesterday swimming in the Gulf.  I also succeeded in getting my sister hooked on the show "Once Upon a Time" so we are watching that after the kiddos are in bed.  (I got my cousin hooked a long time ago...)
Today is the first homeschool event of the year.  It's a pirate themed event and I'm in charge of assembling a treasure hunt.  Its not just a normal treasure hunt.  My clues will lead the children through a series of games that a friend is putting together, such as Swab the Deck and Cannon Ball Toss (which is basically a water fight).  I am hoping that my clues "work" and that they actually find the treasure...  I've never done such an elaborate treasure hunt before.
That's pretty much it!
What have you been up to???

  1. I started my Junior year of high school yesterday. School was cancelled today because of flooding. Far more time than I would like has been spent on football and grass-mowing lately.

    1. We have been having flooding here too. I hope the rain stops soon. Hopefully you find more time for other activities, like writing :)

  2. That's a lot of reading! Enjoy it all. And hooray for family visiting :D I spent the weekend in Scotland with my brother. It's so nice to see people when you don't get as much time as you'd like.

  3. Very cool that you're devoting more time to craft books. I used to read them quite often, but I sort of fell out of the habit when I started to devote more time to drafting. I like your fifteen minutes a day goal... Seems manageable!

Your comments about swimming in the gulf have me all kinds of envious. We live near the ocean (Pacific) too, but the water is SO COLD here. Lovely to look at, but terrible for swimming!

Hope you have a great week, Sarah!

    1. I'm hoping it will be a reachable goal. I have so much to learn but its hard to fit all the reading in.
Isn't it wonderful to live near the ocean? I love it! Its so inspiring.

I'm definitely an Ally Carter fan now. I'm going to try her Gallagher girls series soon, I think.

  6. We're getting ready to start a new homeschool year, too, which is always a challenge for my wife. She has to find a way to teach 4th through 12th grade, and give time to those who need it while motivating the older ones to self-study (a critical skill to develop in older kids when you have a large family!). I don't envy her task, but she's more than up to the challenge. :)

All the best with teaching and writing, Sarah!

  7. So you've gotten back on track with your Chapter a Day classic, and I've gotten off track lol. I've been busy, and I haven't been reading my classic like I'm supposed to. I'm hoping to fix that soon. And that's awesome that you're getting to see your sister and cousin. I'm actually visiting with my sister right now for the first time in a year. Have a great time and a great week, Sarah! :-)

  10. That's great! Sounds like a wonderful time with your family and the school project. Swimming in the gulf, I'm sure was much fun. I wish you lots of luck with the scavenger hunt. I did a scavenger hunt birthday party once for my niece at a mall. It was my first time too, and it was all lots of fun in the end.

Hey Sarah, in tomorrow's (9/2) post, I'm nominating you for two awards. :) Writer’s Mark
