Insecure Write's Support Group

Sometimes I wonder if there is anything writing related that I am not insecure about.  I'm always afraid that my ideas are to tame, or to quirky or any number of other things.  My main insecurities at the moment come from my completed first draft.  I have hours and hours of my life staring at me when I open that document.  I love my story.  I love my characters but now I fear I won't be able to figure out what to do next.  Revision is all new to me.  Publishing scares me too.  I guess I will do what I always do. I will learn as I go. (and perhaps beg any unsuspecting authors for advice!)

  1. Hi Sarah! It's definitely a learning process and it continues. It's hard not be insecure. But when you have support from other writers, it's a great help. It's nice to meet you and good luck!

  2. Writing is HARD. Readers, and others, don't realize that sometimes one paragraph can take THREE days to write (at least for me) So, yes, we're all insecure as we sit and fret and wonder "is this good enough?"

And oh, trying to sort out the next plot point - been there and done that. Sometimes it's better to just put the project down and wait for the brainstorm. So much better than rushing the scene. :)

  3. I think some of the best ways to find out where you story is, is to have a reading partner. Someone you trust to look at it and say this is good this may need a change it will help you unload some of that insecurity. Good luck with revisions.

    1. Thanks for the advice. Another pair of eyes makes a lot of sense. I think I'm to close to my own work to be objective a lot of the time.

  4. Sarah, everything scares me and I've been published twice. Don't get me talking about book readings! Just the thought makes my stomach jump. And did I mention I'm stuck in the middle of my 6th ms? I know, you'd think it would get easier! Happy IWSG!
