What's Up Wednesday

I'm a bit late but here is my What's Up Wednesday post!

What I'm reading  Last week I was in a reading rut. I barely read anything. This week I'm having the opposite problem. I am reading bits and pieces of everything. I wish I could settle into just one book or two but I lack focus apparently. I just finished Scarlet by Marissa Meyer (LOVED it), the audio version of These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner ( loved it too!) and am now listening to Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Barbury while I clean up in the afternoons and Open Minds by Susan Kaye Quinn while I wash dishes in the evenings. I'm reading If I Stay by Gail Forman ( I didn't mean to start it yet but it drew me in... ) and Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. Oh and some random poems and essays by Ralph Waldo Emerson.

What I'm writing  I'm participating in A-Z April so I have been writing lots of blog posts. I'm still revising Slumber and hope to have it done before the Spring Writing Bootcamp is over. I want to get back to drafting my fairy tale novel in June.

What inspires me right now  Words. Encouraging replies on my blog posts, a writer friend who encouraged me on Facebook, beautiful poetic words such as found in Emerson's works, words that my daughter is finally able to read (thanks to her new glasses), words that my toddler is finally learning to say (like "I want cupcakes" lol).

What else I've been up to
Besides reading and writing I've been busy with my children. Two of them are hungry every five minutes so I will probably be hitting yard sales looking for the next sizes of clothing in the near future, even though it seems like I just did that...

  1. You're reminding me that I really need to get reading more poetry. I've always meant to, but haven't yet made it a priority. I hope you're able to find a book you want to dive right into. Have a great week, Sarah!

    1. I've been trying to weave more of it in. I love the books that make you want to read a line over and over because its so beautiful and meaningful so I figured reading poetry might help me think poetically (so to speak) so that hopefully I can write lines like that of my own.

  2. If I Stay and Eleanor & Park- two of my fave contemporary reads. They're both so good!
Two of my daughters have been having major growth spurts lately. I feel like I'm always buying new pants, either because they've grown out of them or they've put holes in the knees! Can't wait for summer and shorts season!

    1. I just finished and loved both those books. They are both amazing!
Shorts really do make keeping them in decent clothes easier.

  3. "I want cupcakes" is one they do learn early! It's amazing how they grow, and how much you do while busy caring for them.

  6. ELEANOR AND PARK is on my TBR list! Well, it has been for a while. I'll get there. I love the new words from your toddler. :) I can just hear those words in a sweet little baby voice that makes you want to give them whatever in the heck they want! Have a great weekend.

    1. It is a good read but you need to be in the mood for a bittersweet sort of story. I love how toddlers talk :)

  7. I once heard in a Brandon Sanderson workshop to read poetry if you want to know how to write setting and description. Poetry uses words in such an exquisite way. Hope your week is stellar!
