H is for Help

I was going to do a post on hindsight and how it can either help or hinder, depending on how you use it, but I've been hearing another word all morning. My all most three year old has been following me around saying, "I help you."
He wants to help me with everything. This morning it was the vacuuming. I tried to distract him, to have him wait off to the side but his lower lip drooped and he looked hurt. All he wanted was to help. I let him. It took me twice as long but he grinned the entire time. He is sitting next to me right now, chasing my hands with a paper alligator,
"helping" me blog.  I can't let him help with everything but if I'm willing to slow down and be creative I can find a way for him to help me with almost anything. He won't always be little. He won't always grin and skip when he helps me with chores. It would be a horrible waste not to except his help, at least as much as I can.

  1. I love this post! I was a stay-at-home mom too...a very wise older mentor told me one time, "The days may be slow, but the years will go fast." She was very right. You'll look back at the memory of your 3 year old "helping", and most importantly you allowing him to. God bless you and your family! 3. I love this! I always try let the twins (3yr olds) help me to do things too. It takes way longer but I love that we spend the time and that they're exploring their creativity and learning things as they go. :)

  4. When he wants to help with the vacuuming and anything to do with floors, play "bullfighter." The vacuum/broom/mop is the toro/bull, and the other person is the toreador/bullfighter. That person waves a red washcloth or whatever in the places where the dirt is and the toro comes over there and gets that dirt, while the bullfighter dodges out of the way. Fun and it gets the job done!
