Sam wasn’t moving. He
might miss something. He kept his eyes
on the screen as he nibbled on his popcorn. Ellie hugged a purple pillow to her
chest.
The man in the movie pulled an old chest out of the
sand. He had found the treasure at last.
The screen went black.
“Momma, it’s over.
Can we watch another movie?” Sam
asked.
“No, one movie is enough.
Why don’t you go outside for awhile?”
“I don’t want to play outside without Carlos.”
“Where is Carlos?”
“He is visiting his Grandma for two whole days.”
“Well, what did you use to play before Carlos moved here?”
Momma asked.
“I can’t remember. I
wasn’t ready for the movie to be over.
My legs are still tired. All they
want to do is sit and watch another movie.”
“You better start waking up those legs. They won’t be very strong if they sit all the
time.”
“Ok. I’ll go outside.
“ Sam turned to his sister. “Are you coming Ellie?”
“I want to watch tv.”
Ellie was still snuggled up with her pillow.
“The movie is over.
Momma said we can’t watch anymore.”
“I will sit here and watch a movie in my head. I don’t want to get up yet.”
Watching a movie in his head didn’t sound like fun to
Sam.
Outside had to be better than that.
Sam walked around the yard.
Then he circled it again.
“Harty har har.”
Sam spun around.
“Who are you?”
“I be the evil pirate Captain Drake, the meanest pirate to
sail the seven seas.”
“Why are you in my backyard?”
“Backyard? I see no
back yard. Look around ,Matey. There is nothing out there but the open sea.
Sam looked. He was on
a ship. The ocean stretched in front of him as far as he could see.
“Where are we going?”
“We be going to Dreadful Dragon Island. “
“Why?”
“You ask a lot of questions, boy. Why don’t ye hand over the map?”
“What map?”
“The map that be hidden in yer shoe.”
“I don’t have a map in my shoe. See?”
Sam pulled off his shoe.
A piece of paper fluttered to the floor.
(to be continued)
oh I love Sam's imagination with the Pirate! Great post.
ReplyDeleteI love the imgaination he has in this!! (:
ReplyDeleteFun awaits, i'm sure.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like Sam is on quite the adventure. And I love Ellie's line about watching the movie in her head.

Thank you, everyone!
ReplyDeleteNice job, keeping the intended audience in mind. The short sentences at the beginning were good for effect. My only suggestion is to watch out using any word twice in subsequent sentences, as you did with "chest".
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cherie that the line about watching the movie in her head was classic. A little writer in the making. But of course boys must be active, so Sam had his cool adventure. Off to P...
