R is for Rainbow

I ended up spending all of Saturday playing with my children and getting the garden ready so I am just now posting my story for "R".  I can't believe we have finished three weeks of the A to Z challenge!

“Ninety-seven, ninety-eight, ninety-nine.  We are almost there!” Sam said.

“Good.  My legs are too tired to stomp in anymore puddles.” Ellie said.

She looked behind her.  All she could see was puddles.  Puddles, puddles and more puddles.  She had jumped in every single one of them.

“Look!  I see it!” Sam said, hopping up and down.  Its the end of the rainbow!.”

“How did you know that it would be after 100 puddles?”  Ellie asked.

“I didn’t.  It was a guess.”

“Why are we going to the end of the rainbow, anyway?”

“Because, Ellie.   Everyone knows that is where you find the best treasure.”

“What kind of treasure?”

“Gold.  I think anyway.” Sam said, rubbing his chin.

“I don’t want to find gold.  Gold is boring.”

“What?  It’s not boring.  We could use it to buy new crayons, or a real pet snake.”

“Ick.  I hate snakes.  I want a fluffy white kitten with a purple collar, or a princess dress. “

Ellie spun in a circle.  “I still don’t want to find gold.”

“What do you want to find?” asked Sam.

“Diamonds.  At least they are sparkly.”
Sam sighed and looked around.
“We are here.” He said.
All he saw was more puddles.
“Where is the treasure?” Ellie asked.  “Oh, never mind.  I see it.”

“You do?  Where?”

“It’s in that puddle.  See?  It’s looking right at you.”

“Ellie, that’s not treasure.  That’s a frog.”

“You said that you wanted a snake.  Maybe the rainbow knew that Momma would never let you keep a snake in the house so it brought you a frog.”

“Hmm.  Maybe your right.”

Sam slipped the frog into his the pocket of his rain coat.

“Let’s see if Momma likes frogs!” He said, running towards the house.

  1. LOL. I love that they find a frog at the end of the rainbow. Isn't it fun when your kids bring you critters? My son has found many a frog, snake, mouse, etc. home.

  5. Sounds like you had your priorities straight this weekend! :D

Great post - a mother never knows what she might find in her son's pockets.

  6. HA! Popping in from the a-z. Just a thought...this font is easier to read than the font on other posts. :-) Very nice "about me" page. :-)

    1. Thanks for the feedback. I like the font for the comments and short posts but I agree, it isn't great for longer pieces. Too swirly. I will play with the fonts:)
